Landscape Architecture Planting Design Outreach
Don Brigham, FASLA, Principal of Don Brigham Plus Associates in Clarkston, Washington and part-time faculty member for the Department of Landscape Architecture maintains a unique outreach program for students in LArc 289, Planting Design II. If you are interested in having three-four students prepare a landscape design for your residential or small commercial project, please contact the Department of Landscape Architecture  or call 208-885-7448 and mention this program specifically. Students work on these projects in the spring semester.

THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE DESIGN STUDIOS

The department welcomes inquires from communities, not-for-profit organizations and governmental agencies regarding the possibility of studio based landscape architecture and land planning service-learning projects. Please contact the Department of Landscape Architecture or call 208-885-7448 if you wish to talk directly to a department representative about this studio outreach program. Faculty welcome the opportunity to engage students in service learning as a component of professional development. Several criteria are used in the selection of these projects:

·         Does the proposed outreach project aid the student in understanding the culture and landscape character of the region?

·         Is a proposed outreach project of the level of complexity required to meet the learning objectives of the program?

·         How does the proposed project provide opportunities for interdisciplinary learning with other university disciplines?

·         Will the proposed project engage the student in critical social issues? Are "at risk" human or environmental resource issues present in the project that address values and ethics?

·         Does the proposed project require students to identify individuals and/or agencies in the university and community outside of the profession as resources for the successful completion of the project?

·         Does the project provide opportunities to partner with regional landscape architecture, planning and other design professionals?

·         Will the student's participation in the proposed project promote Landscape Architecture and the professional practice of regional landscape architects?
