Each year the
Theatre and Film department at the University of Idaho
hosts the DNA Festival; a series of original short (one page) plays.
For the 2006 festival, the Virtual Technology and Design (VTD) program
collaborated with Theatre and Film to develop and produce the "Wil to
Fly" animation. "Wil" was conceived to be presented in a series of
segisodes, viewed between the plays. The original story was
written by David Eames-Harlan (Theatre and Film) and developed with the
students from the VTD Sophomore and Junior Design Studios. The
story was brought to life by the students of the VTD DNA Production
class and the original musical score was composed and arranged by Barry Uhl (Lionel Hampton
School of Music).
The theme for the 2006 DNA festival is "Airports". Each author
develops their plays to take place in and around an airport. The "Wil
to Fly" theme extended the idea of airport to include flight thus the
story line evolved as:
Wil, a small flightless bird, yearns to fly and soar with his
feathered cousins amongst the clouds.
